Step-by-step Pinterest guide for marketing real estate, plus concrete technical and editorial actions to increase the chance your Pinterest Pins (and the pages they’re on) show up in Google search results.

I’ll give: setup → creative best practices → on-page SEO & structured data → distribution/amplification → measurement + quick checklists and copy-ready templates.

1) Setup & account foundation (do this first)

  1. Business account & claim your domain

    • Switch to a Pinterest Business account and claim your website in Pinterest settings (adds site verification and unlocks analytics / Rich Pins).

  2. Optimize profile

    • Profile name: include main keyword + location (e.g., Mark Jacobs Productions — Lake Norman Real Estate Media).

    • Bio: 1 short sentence with services + location and website link.

  3. Enable Rich Pins

    • Implement Open Graph / meta tags or schema on your site and validate Rich Pins with Pinterest (Article/Product). Rich Pins pull metadata directly from your site and increase trust/visibility.

  4. Install the Save / Pin button

    • Add Pinterest’s Save button to property pages so visitors can pin directly (this creates backlinks to your pages).

2) Creative best practices for pins (what to post)

  1. Image specs & format

    • Use vertical images. Recommended baseline: 1000 × 1500 px (2:3); avoid excessively long pins unless you test them. Use high-res JPEG/PNG.

  2. Compelling visual

    • Hero shot of the property, readable text overlay (property type + location + hook). Keep overlay minimal and legible.

  3. Pin types

    • Static images (single-photo), carousels (multiple photos), video Pins (short tours), and Idea Pins (multi-page story). Videos should include captions/subtitles.

  4. On-image text

    • Short headline (e.g., “Lake Norman Waterfront — 4 Bed • Private Dock”) — helps CTR and reinforces keywords for humans (and often for Pinterest search).

  5. Alt text

    • When creating the Pin, add descriptive alt text using geo-keywords (example below).

  6. Pin description

    • Write a natural, keyword-rich sentence or two (lead with location + service) and include a CTA + link to the listing page.

  7. Boards

    • Organize with clear SEO-friendly board titles (e.g., “Lake Norman Waterfront Homes,” “Mooresville Luxury Listings,” “Virtual Tours — Lake Norman”). Fill board descriptions with keywords.

3) On-site SEO & structured data (how Google sees it)

Pins alone help, but Google indexes the pages that pins link to. Make your listing pages crawlable and richly described.

  1. Create a unique landing page for each listing

    • URL structure: /listings/mooresville-lakeview-123. Include page title with location and property type.

  2. Embed the Pin (or embed your media) on the listing page

    • Use Pinterest embed or native images/video on the page so Google sees context and content.

  3. Transcripts & long, useful descriptions

    • Add a long property description, features list, neighborhood context, and — if video — a transcript. This textual content helps Google understand the page/topic.

  4. Add structured data (JSON-LD)

    • Use WebPage, ImageObject, and VideoObject (if video) to describe the listing. Example (adapt for each listing):

 

Note: use VideoObject if you embed a video tour (include uploadDate, duration, embedUrl, and transcript). If your CMS supports Residence or Offer, optionally add Offer with price/availability.

  1. Image sitemaps

    • Add image tags to your sitemap ( entries) so Google more reliably indexes property photos.

  2. Open Graph meta tags

    • og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url — Pinterest and social parsers use these. Ensure they match your schema.

4) Pin SEO copy: templates & examples (use these verbatim or tweak)

5) Distribution & amplification (make Google notice)

  1. Embed pins and media on your own site (blog post + listing page). Google indexes your site — much higher chance than relying on Pinterest alone.

  2. Cross-post to Facebook, Instagram, and especially Google Business Profile updates (local signals). GBP posts can rank quickly for local queries.

  3. Syndicate to Pinterest + Pinterest SEO:

    • Pin to multiple relevant boards (don’t spam—2–3 is fine).

    • Re-pin high-performing pins periodically and to seasonal boards.

  4. Link-building

  3. Short, watchable hooks

7) Measurement & iteration

  1. Pinterest Analytics — track saves, impressions, clicks, and top-performing pins/boards.

  2. Google Search Console — monitor indexing & search impressions for listing pages. Use the URL Inspection tool to request indexing after publishing/embedding.

  3. Sitemap & index coverage — ensure listing pages are in sitemap and not blocked by robots.txt.

  4. A/B test pin headlines and thumbnails — track which phrasing triggers more clicks and more site visits.

8) Quick legal & brand-safe notes

  • Get permission to publish property interior photos (seller consent).

  • When using drone images, ensure FAA compliance & safety; mention “drone aerials” in description if included.

Final note — realistic expectations

  • Pinterest content can appear in Google results, but the fastest, most reliable path is to ensure the property listing page on your website is the primary indexable asset (with embedded Pins, transcripts, and schema). Pinterest then sends users to that page and serves as a traffic amplifier and discovery layer.
